What kind of flavours are ‘fall flavoured’?

The great thing about fall flavours is there’s no real set definition of what they are.  But there are certain things we seem to associate with this time of year in particular and they tend to feature in these drinks.

Spices

Top of the list are spices such as cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and even vanilla.  They tend to be warming spices that help you feel better in the cooler weather that is sneaking in.  And they also have that ‘Christmas is coming’ vibe to them.

An example could be gingerbread spiced coffee.  This blends cinnamon, ginger, clove, and allspice into a latte that has a sweet flavour and reminds you of those gingerbread men cookies we all love.

Pumpkin

You can’t talk about fall without talking about pumpkin and you can’t talk about coffee drinks without mentioning pumpkin spice latte.  This trend took over a few years ago and has spawned a whole range of drinks.  It uses pumpkin pie spice in most cases to add to pureed or canned pumpkin and create a classic drink.  It is often topped with whipped cream and some fresh ground cinnamon.

Salted caramel

Another classic flavour pair, salted caramel seems to become more popular as the weather gets colder.  Simple drinks like salted caramel lattes as well as using salted caramel syrup in regular coffee is a great fall-themed idea.
