The chef behind the coffee.
A UK coffee blog built on one simple idea — great coffee shouldn’t require a barista degree, a fancy machine, or a trip to an overpriced café.
Welcome to The Coffee Chef.
I’m the person behind this site — a coffee-obsessed UK blogger who got tired of paying £4.50 for a drink I could make better at home. The Coffee Chef started as a way to document everything I was learning, and it’s grown into a proper resource for anyone who wants to up their coffee game without the faff.
Everything you’ll find here is written from a UK perspective. That means prices in pounds, machines you can actually buy on the high street, and recommendations that reflect how we drink coffee over here — not across the Atlantic.
Whether you’re a complete beginner figuring out your first coffee machine, or someone who wants to dial in their AeroPress technique, there’s something here for you.
What you’ll always get here
UK pricing, always
Every price on this site is in pounds. Every machine recommended is available to buy in the UK. No dollar conversions, no imports, no US-only links.
Honest opinions
If something isn’t worth buying, I’ll say so. Affiliate links help keep the site running but they never influence what gets recommended — only what’s genuinely good.
Practical, not pretentious
Great coffee doesn’t have to be complicated. The goal here is always to give you something useful you can actually do at home — not to make you feel like you need a barista qualification.
How it started
Like most coffee obsessions, mine started with a bad cup. I’d been making terrible instant coffee every morning for years, convinced that was just what coffee tasted like at home. Then a friend made me a proper pour-over and everything changed.
I went down the rabbit hole — brewing methods, grind sizes, water temperature, bean origins. I started buying equipment, testing recipes, and writing everything down. At some point it made sense to put it somewhere people could actually find it.
“Why pay café prices when you can make better at home? That’s still the question this whole site is built around.”
The Coffee Chef has been going for a few years now and the core idea hasn’t changed. It’s still just me, still UK-focused, and still obsessed with finding the best way to make a great cup of coffee without overcomplicating things.
I cover everything from beginner-friendly brewing guides and honest equipment reviews to recipes for the drinks you’d normally have to queue at Costa for. If there’s something you’d like to see covered, get in touch — the best content ideas always come from readers.
